I Drive At Night started was the brainchild of our cofounders’ dad, Ed, when he lost his wife. He knew he would never find anyone like his wife Shirley. Shirley and Ed were married for 51 years and were madly in love until the very end. After a 5 year battle with lung cancer, Shirley passed away and Ed was very lonely. Being a very positive person, Ed’s philosophy was that “Life is for the living and that we all have to go on with our lives.” After a year or so, Ed was ready to get back out there and “live” some more. He started dating and finding new friends to make the rest of his life special. As he went on dates or out with friends, the question he always got was “Do you drive at night.” And so it goes, Ed felt there was a real need to connect with others in his senior years and to be able to go on with your life–day and night. That is where the name came from and from there, an idea sparked and our story was written.
